Katie Collis

Associate Solicitor

Wills, Tax & Estate Administration

Katie is based in our Canterbury Office in the Wills, Tax & Estate Administration team. She has specialist knowledge in the preparation of Wills, Powers of Attorney and the Administration of Estates.

Her experience includes the administration of a range of estates, drafting of Wills, the preparation of Lasting Powers of Attorney, registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney and the drawing up of Declarations of Trusts.

Katie frequently works with both elderly and bereaved clients to ensure that their needs are met and to ensure that their wishes are properly reflected. Katie is happy to make home and hospital visits where clients are unable to attend the office. She works to offer a caring and personal service which ensures the clients feel comfortable and listened to by providing clear advice that is tailored to their specific needs.

Katie moved to Canterbury in 2011 to study Law at the University of Kent, graduating in 2014 with an upper second class degree. Whilst at University, Katie participated in mediation competitions and was a member of the Kent Law Clinic where she assisted with client matters in both litigation and property law.

After university, she worked at a number of charities, specialising in handling gifts left in Wills and later managing the legacy department at a national charity, representing the charity on a number of panels and conferences and being shortlisted for the Institute of Fundraising Awards in 2018.

In 2019 she went on to study the Legal Practice Course (LPC) with joint LLM award full time at the University of Law Bloomsbury, graduating in 2020 with a Commendation and a Distinction.

Katie also originally joined Girlings in September 2019 (whilst still completing her LLM LPC), working as a Paralegal in our Commercial Property team, assisting on all aspects of commercial and residential transactions including purchases, sales, company refinances, remortgages and leases.

Katie then commenced her Training Contract with Girlings in March 2021, undertaking seats in Residential Property, Dispute Resolution & Contested Probate, and a double seat in Wills, Tax & Estate Administration. She successfully completed her Training Contract in March 2023, qualifying into our Wills, Tax & Estate Administration team.

Outside of the workplace, Katie enjoys socialising with friends, renovating her home in Canterbury, horse riding and cooking. Katie is a fluent Welsh speaker.

Testimonials

Katie Collis was very helpful, polite and courteous. We could not have asked for any better service.
Simon & Pauline Child
We have this week completed our wills under the Cancer Research UK scheme with your firm. The entire matter was handled by Katie Collis. We wanted to record our thanks for the fast, courteous and efficient way the process was undertaken from start to finish. We have had, to put it mildly, mixed results from other solicitors in the past and it was a rare pleasure to be treated with such professionalism.
Treated very well. Katie understood and listened… very, very happy with the service from start to finish. Well done
Mrs Kerley
I had the good fortune of Katie Collis and her team dealing with what was the worst time in my life. Whilst maintaining a high professional standard, they made such a difficult, upsetting and stressful time manageable by their understanding and ability to explain all the layman’s terms and deal with everything I could not. I cannot thank them enough.
Caroline Mills
From meeting the lady in reception, to Katie, the whole experience was excellent.
