Gemma works in our Canterbury office and specialises in all areas of Family Law.  She has been accredited by the Law Society as a specialist family solicitor.

Gemma joined Girlings in November 2016 as a Senior Associate Solicitor and specialises in Family Law. She is committed to providing advice in clear, effective language and to achieving a fair settlement for her clients.

During her time as a Solicitor Gemma has focussed on the areas of Family and Mental Health Law and has been accredited by the Law Society as a specialist panel member in both these areas for a number of years.  She is also a member of Resolution, an organisation of family law professionals committed to helping their clients reach a fair solution quickly and cost-effectively.

Gemma has built up a wealth of experience in all aspects of Family Law and understands the difficulties faced by clients when a relationship breaks down.  She is an experienced solicitor who is known for her excellent client relations. She conducts her own advocacy wherever possible. 

My specialisms

Gemma’s specialisms include:

  • Divorce proceedings and separation
  • Advice and agreements for cohabiting couples and resolution of issues between former cohabitees
  • Civil Partnership breakdown
  • Children matters - including child arrangements and applications for leave to remove from the jurisdiction
  • Domestic Violence
  • Divorce settlements - financial provision, including pensions on divorce
  • Pre-nuptial Agreements
  • Schedule 1 Children Act applications - financial provision for children where parents are not married.

Gemma completed her law degree on a part-time basis whilst working in a local law firm where she subsequently completed her training contract.  She graduated from the University of Kent at Canterbury and qualified as a Solicitor in 2007.  She remained working at the same local firm until October 2016.
