Resolution Together follows the ‘one lawyer, two clients’ model to provide a more collaborative route to divorce or separation.
This is an alternative to the more traditional route, where a divorcing couple each instructs a separate lawyer to represent their own interests. Instead, Resolution Together provides a way for both parties to reach an agreement without resorting to often expensive and time-consuming litigation.
How Resolution Together Works
Resolution Together requires both parties to feel comfortable about discussing all aspects of their separation with a shared, jointly-appointed lawyer.
It is not suitable for couples where there is a risk of controlling and coercive behaviour, or where a disagreement between the parties becomes unresolvable and a conflict of interest arises.
As a first step, your chosen lawyer would meet with you individually to establish if your situation means that Resolution Together is an appropriate route to take.
If Resolution Together is suitable for both of you, you would then meet your lawyer together and proceed to work through all the decisions to be made concerning your finances and children as you move towards a financial agreement.
As part of this process, your lawyer would also assist, if appropriate, in terms of suggesting help from outside mediators, finance and pensions experts, and other professionals to help you find the most cost-efficient way to reach agreement.
And when an agreed outcome is reached, your lawyer would draw up the necessary legal agreement to formalise your joint decisions.

Further information and contact
The Resolution Together initiative is backed by Resolution, an organisation that was founded in 1982 in the belief that a non-confrontational approach to Family Law issues would produce better outcomes for separating families and their children.
The Resolution Together scheme also complements the introduction of the ‘No Fault Divorce’ law that came into force in 2022, which removed the need to lay the blame on the other party for the breakdown of the marriage or wait until two years had passed before commencing divorce proceedings.
