Having successfully navigated his Training Contract at Girlings, Mathew arrived at the point of qualification with an excellent understanding of both the Firm and the needs of our clients.
Alongside this more general awareness, the Training Contract also enabled Mathew to acquire specialist knowledge of the work of two particularly relevant departments:
Firstly, Mathew completed a seat in Employment Law, where he developed a strong understanding of the legal frameworks governing workplace relations. This experience proved particularly valuable in corporate transactions, where employment considerations often play a critical role in due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
And secondly, Mathew spent two training seats in Corporate & Commercial, accumulating a full year of experience advising on a range of matters including share and business sales and acquisitions, shareholder agreements, and commercial contracts. This has equipped him with a solid foundation in transactional work and client advisory services.
Prior to starting his Training Contract, Mathew also worked as a paralegal in our sister company, Girlings Personal Injury Claims. He is a Law graduate of the University of Kent and completed his LLM Legal Practice Course at the University of Law. Mathew also possesses practical commercial awareness drawn from time spent as an assistant manager in the hospitality sector.
Outside of the office, Mathew is a keen gym-goer and traveller, with his adventures ranging from a month-long solo trip across Thailand to attending matches (both home and away) as a member of the England Supporters Travel Club.
