On 2 May 2018, our sister Firm Girlings Solicitors Personal Injury Claims reported on their website that they had settled a case involving negligent breast cancer treatment for the sum of £170,000.
The case concerned a failure by Medway NHS Foundation Trust to offer their client a mastectomy when she was diagnosed with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ), a form of breast cancer which, if not treated properly, can lead to invasive breast cancer. Sadly their client is now terminally ill when she could have been cured, had a mastectomy been offered to her.
Shantala Carr, Senior Associate Solicitor in their Medical Negligence department, was interviewed by the BBC in London, a short clip of which was shown on BBC South East News on 19 June 2018. Mrs Carr also discussed the case and the law surrounding it on a live interview on BBC Radio Kent on 19 June 2018.
