After two years of fundraising for our corporate charity, Take Off, our official support for the charity draws to a close. We are proud to have supported such a worthwhile cause and have enjoyed participating in varied initiatives over the last two years.
Fundraising events included: a Safari Quiz, an inter-office bake off, Girlings Gladiators taking on Tough Mudder, Spooky Halloween games and the Girlimpics and as a result we have raised: £6734.67
Take Off provides vital peer support services to those in need of mental health support. The charity continued its presence during lockdown and its service users continued to feel supported, connected and assured that those service wouldn’t simply disappear because of the pandemic; and the charity worked hard to continue to deliver those services during the uncertain times.
This continued presence, although conducted digitally helped relieve feelings of isolation
When restrictions were lifted the team offered socially distanced walks to stay connected with their service users. As well as take advantage of the fresh air and outdoors space.
Take Off’s Assistant Director, Ellie Williams tells us what the charity is working to achieve with local people in East Kent :
“Take Off is aware of the link between mental health problems and economic hardship, which also bring loneliness and lack of occupation and purpose. Whilst we can’t resolve people’s economic difficulties, we do have a belief that mental ill-health detests two things: oxygen and friendship.
This is therefore what we seek to provide as both these things take the problems from inside the head to the outside; while not necessarily removing them completely they do become easier to live with and they lose their hold over us.
To this end, we are 100% user led, believing that people who’ve themselves come through the problems are best placed to help those currently afflicted. We run entirely on the peer support model and most of our services take the form of self-help groups, which are either “talking” or “doing” focused.”
We are proud to have supported such a worthwhile cause over the last two years and have had fun raising awareness and fundraising for the team at Take Off through various events, both within the office and externally. We wish the charity continued success in delivering such vital support to the community it serves.
