In the twelve months prior to starting her training contract, Ruth successfully served as a Paralegal with our Wills, Tax & Estate Administration and Residential Property departments. This enabled Ruth to gain significant practical experience alongside with completing the final year of her MLaw studies at the University of Kent.
Prior to joining Girlings, Ruth also gained experience of working with the HM Courts and Tribunals Service, when she was based at Milton Keynes County Court and Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court in their Family Department.
Alongside her role at Girlings, Ruth is a member of the Citizens' Advisory Council, a body that advises the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs on their new Food Strategy for England. The Council consists of twenty citizen representatives, and works in conjunction with the Food, Farming & Countryside Commission and Food Foundation to ensure that the views of citizens are accurately reflected in government strategy. The Council’s work includes running workshops to encourage citizen engagement and capture a broad spread of opinion.
Additionally, while still a student, Ruth acted as a mentor at the University of Kent, helping other students to understand Equity and Trusts; as well as coaching additional legal skills such as mooting. She even had the privilege of sitting as a judge at the University’s annual charity moot!
Outside of the office, Ruth is learning Spanish, plays piano, and writes poetry.
