Dean’s contentious work covers litigation in the Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeal Tribunal and High Court. He has also acted for business owners against recovery action brought by HMRC for overpaid furlough under the CJRS.
In addition, Dean provides bespoke advice on the employment aspects of the sale and acquisition of businesses, particularly those obligations under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006 (“TUPE”). He also deals with business immigration matters, and has advised companies on UK visa sponsorship requirements and related applications.
Generally, Dean can advise on and prepare settlement agreements, employment contracts, service agreements, consultancy agreements and staff policies.
- Primary fee earner for successful Claimant in its high value claims for passing off and breach of confidence in the Intellectual Property and Enterprise Court.
- Co-Acted for Non-Executive Director in successful appeal on worker status for the purpose of bringing a whistleblowing claim.
- Represented an employee of a leading multinational retailer in a claim for failure to make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010.
- Represented an employee of a large construction company in multiple claims for direct sex discrimination, sexual harassment, victimisation, unfair dismissal and wrongful dismissal.
- Advised local care home in multimillion pound transaction on its obligations under TUPE and negotiated employment warranties and indemnities under Asset Purchase Agreement.
- Advised on and carried out due diligence in relation to acquisition and restructuring of a hotel, including multiple redundancies.
Dean has an LL.B (European Union) degree in law from the University of Leicester, which included a year of comparative legal studies at the University of Florence. He was called to the bar of England and Wales following completion of the Bar Professional Training Course at Nottingham Law School.
Dean qualified as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (F.CILEx) in 2020.
Outside of work, Dean enjoys spending time exploring the Kent countryside, cooking and watching tennis.
