Emma qualified into our Private Client team in September 2018 and is based in our Canterbury Office.

Emma graduated from the University of Kent in 2011 with a 2.1 Law and French degree before completing the Legal Practice Course with a commendation at the College of Law in 2012.  Emma then went on to spend over three years working for the Home Office within a legal team. During this time Emma gained extensive legal experience in advocacy representing the Secretary of State for the Home Department at appeal hearings. 

In March 2016 Emma moved into private practice beginning as a Commercial Property paralegal with Girlings.  Emma started her Training Contract at Girlings in September 2016 and has since gained broad experience working within Girlings’ Family, Residential Conveyancing and Private Client teams. 

Since March 2017 Emma has worked closely with the Private Client team based in our Canterbury office and Emma has now qualified into this department under Lesley Rushton’s (Head of the Private Client Department) supervision. 

Through Emma’s training and since qualification she has gained experience in:

  • Drafting Wills including advising on Inheritance Tax and estate planning
  • Severance of Joint Tenancy and Entry of Restrictions at HM Land Registry
  • Drafting Lasting Power of Attorney and
  • Dealing with estate administration..  

Emma is also involved with Girlings’ Court of Protection team assisting with applications to the Court of Protection for deputyship for Financial Decisions as well as Health and Welfare Decisions.
