Partner Sarah Geering and Senior Associate Solicitor Mark Dennison from our Wills, Tax and Estate Administration team enjoyed a fascinating tour of the Francis Crick Institute, Cancer Research UK’s flagship research institute based in London. The institute is home to thousands of scientists from multiple disciplines working in networks from across the globe. The Institute’s scientists have published almost 2,000 research papers impacting many fields of cancer research in the last six years alone illustrating its breadth of work.
The invitation from Cancer Research UK recognised Girlings' ongoing support of the charity’s Will-writing service.
Sarah and Mark learnt how important legacies are to CRUK’s research. The research undertaken and the tremendous advances made in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer are all supported by the legacies left in Wills that are drafted through Cancer Research UK’S Will writing service. Some £96,000 will fund a PhD student for four years research, for example.
Following the visit, Sarah commented: “The Crick Institute itself was awe-inspiring. The scientists save lives and it made me feel proud to be able to contribute to this work in a small way through the Firm’s participation in the Cancer Research Will Writing Scheme. The visit made a deep impression on me”.
