Head of Girlings' Family Law, Partner, Sarah Finnis and Senior Associate Solicitor, Gemma Purt are delighted to support the free family law advice sessions at Herne Bay and Canterbury’s Citizens Advice. Sarah (pictured right) is a pro-bono volunteer at Herne Bay and Gemma (picture left) at Canterbury.
The free family law advice sessions started in 2013 when The Big Lottery Funding was awarded through the Advice Service Transition Fund for a period of two years. When the funding ended additional funds were fortunately secured to continue this service in an attempt to offset the effects of the Government's removal of legal aid funding from family law.
To offer a more accessible service for clients, weekly sessions started in March 2016. Sarah Finnis and colleagues Nameeta Gujral, a partner at Robinsons and Emma Palmer from Whitehead Monckton were prime movers in setting up the pro bono family law rota and encouraging other legal colleagues in the local area to join the list of pro bono volunteers.
The service has since gone from strength to strength with over fifty clients benefitting from advice during 2016.
