Girlings solicitors have donated more paper and envelopes to support Ashford Volunteer Centre’s Befriending scheme.
Ashford Volunteer Centre’s Befriending scheme offers a way to reconnect with older people who may be isolated and unable to attend social clubs and events. This incentive has built valuable relationships between clients and befriender, particularly over the past year and a half during the pandemic, as many vulnerable members have had to isolate.
There is a continual need for the service, which is provided as an in person service, with befrienders regularly visiting for a cup of tea and a catch up. They also provide befriending services over the phone or through letter writing. They receive referrals across the borough from people who are housebound, live alone and do not have regular visits from friends or relatives.
The Befriending team at AVC connect people with a befriender, identifying those who may have similar interests and personalities to ensure that the communication they receive, in whichever form, is beneficial to their needs.
