Congratulations to Girlings’ Charlotte Parsons who was named Paralegal of the Year at the Kent & East Sussex Junior Lawyers Division Achievement Awards 2017, held in Tunbridge Wells on Friday.

Charlotte, a paralegal in the Private Client team in Herne Bay, received the award in recognition of her outstanding performance during her first year at Girlings. Not only has she developed her skills and grown in stature and confidence as a legal advisor but she has made a significant personal contribution to the local community and Firm through her work as a Dementia Friend Champion.

The Dementia Friends campaign is an Alzheimer Society initiative. Charlotte registered Girlings with www.dementiafriends.org.uk and has set up  an on-going series of lunch time Dementia Friends Information Sessions for staff in the Firm’s Ashford, Canterbury and Herne Bay offices. The sessions address common misconceptions associated with Dementia and create a foundation level of knowledge to enable staff to interact with enhanced understanding with not only clients, but also in their personal relations.

In September, as a result of this work, Charlotte made a successful application to the Dementia Friendly Communities Team at Kent County Council for Girlings to be recognised as “Working to be Dementia Friendly”.

If you are a community organisation interested in finding out more about running a Dementia Friend session, please contact Charlotte for further information.
