Annual Reception 2024
News

This year the Girlings Solicitors’ Annual Reception was held at the historic Goodnestone Park.

First built in 1704 by Sir Brook Bridges, Goodnestone House has been painstakingly maintained by his descendants right through to the current owners, Lord and Lady Fitzwalter.

Goodnestone is also well-known for its links to Jane Austen. Following the marriage of her brother Edward into the Bridges family, Jane was a regular guest and began writing Pride and Prejudice shortly after a visit in 1796.

With the Queen Anne style mansion providing a stunning backdrop, and with pastoral views across the valley towards Chillenden, a total of 140 guests enjoyed a late-summer’s evening in the company of our solicitors.

Refreshed by Chapel Down wines and a selection of locally-sourced canapés, our guests were also serenaded by the Hot Jazz Quartet, led by Jonny Hepbir.

Meanwhile, internationally-renowned artist Charles Burns cut our guests’ silhouettes, presenting them with the finished article in a card frame to mark the occasion – a fitting keepsake as the sun descended and the shadows lengthened.

A huge thank you to all our solicitors and support staff for the part they played in making the evening a success. Special mention to our trainee solicitors for welcoming guests as they arrived, and to the wonderful hospitality team at Goodnestone.

And of course the biggest thank you must go to our valued clients for joining us on the night. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
