Separation Agreements: FAQs

You are here

What is a separation agreement?

A separation agreement is a contract, agreed between the two parties, explaining how they intend to live their lives and resolve the financial issues between them.  A separation agreement  where a couple is married does not override the authority of the court - parties to a separation agreement are still legally married.
