| We recognise that our
staff are our greatest asset and this is reflected in the emphasis
we place on staff training, support and development within the practice. Between September and March each year, we aim to recruit a minimum of two trainees who will be ready to commence a training contract the following September i.e. one year hence. Candidates should have a strong academic background and are usually in the final year of their degree, ideally possessing or likely to achieve a 2:1, preferably in Law. The Firm looks for individuals who are enthusiastic, able to use their common sense and initiative and can communicate fluently and confidently whilst working in a pressurised environment. We welcome applications from graduates of all ages; cultural and ethnic diversities. We are committed to providing high quality, structured training for all trainees to provide variety and responsibility. The Firm's Training Partner and Human Resources Manager oversee the training programme to ensure that trainees gain a wide range of experience to develop their professional skills. Girlings views trainees as an important asset and we expect them to make a significant contribution to the Firm by having direct access to clients from an early stage. Whilst the Law Society requires trainees to cover at least three disciplines of practice within their two year training contract, we try to provide training within four departments for a period of six months each. Where possible, trainees' particular skills, strengths and interests are taken into account when the programme is decided. We offer comprehensive training across our offices across East Kent (Ashford, Canterbury, Herne Bay, Folkestone and Margate) as follows:
Applications from those with a strong affinity to Kent are particularly welcome, as we consider trainees to be an investment in the Firm's future and try to retain as many as possible as Assistant Solicitors post qualification (provided appropriate opportunities exist at the time). If you are looking to further your career with a firm with a reputation
for excellence, complete the Training Application Form and send it
together with a covering letter describing why you have decided on
a career as a solicitor and why you would like to train with Girlings.
Please outline any extra curricular activities and interests; highlighting
those skills you have used or acquired and which you consider support
your application. |
